Live Q&A: ask Ava your questions in the chat

Most farmers won't know if this year made money until the accountant calls in spring. By then, the big decisions are already made. Find out now, live, and see exactly how to check your own numbers.

Here's exactly what happens

Three questions that tell you if this year made money

01 · Your break-even

Do you know your break-evens, and did you sell above them?

Inputs, rent, fuel, labor, interest. Add it up the right way and you'll know what every bushel or head really cost you, and whether you sold above it.

02 · Your operating line

Will you pay your operating line to $0 this year?

Whether your line gets back to zero says more about this year than your yield does. See what carryover means and what to do about it.

03 · Live walkthrough

Watch us check a farm's numbers, live

We'll walk through Farmer Metrics on screen so you can see how to answer "did we make money?" in minutes, not months.

04 · Peace of mind

Are you sleeping at night?

Not knowing is what keeps most farmers up. Leave with a plan built on real numbers, not a gut feeling.

Don't fly blind into next year

Most farmers won't know if this year made money until spring. By then, it's too late to change it.

The grain gets sold, the rent gets signed, and the note gets renewed, all before the accountant calls. After a year of high input costs and tight prices, guessing is expensive. This hour shows you how to know where you stand now, while you can still do something about it.

This is for you if…

  • You had a decent crop, but you're not sure it actually paid.
  • You won't know if you made money this year until the accountant tells you in spring.
  • You couldn't say your cost per bushel (or per head) off the top of your head.
  • You're about to make selling or buying decisions without the full picture.
  • You're the one carrying the money side, and nobody else at the table sees it.

Also for you if you're the next generation, taking over the books from Mom or Dad.

If two or more of those sound familiar, this hour is for you.

Jace D. Young

Founder & CEO of Legacy Farmer, a western Kansas farm kid and former ag loan officer. In 2005, while Jace was in high school, his family lost their farm. Not because they couldn't farm, but because the business side was never organized. He started Legacy Farmer in 2019 so other families don't go through the same thing.

Questions

Before you sign up

Is this for my operation?

Yes, if you raise grain, run cattle, or both. Big or small. Ava has reviewed farm books of every kind, and the question is the same: after everything's paid, what's left?

I already have an accountant. Why do I need this?

Your accountant tells you what happened, usually months later. This shows you where you stand right now, so you can actually use it to make decisions.

Do I need to be good with numbers?

No. If you can read a fuel bill, you can follow this. Plain language, real farm examples.

Is this live?

Yes. Jace and Ava will be live on Wednesday, Nov 4 at 6:00 PM CT, answering your questions in the chat.

How do I watch?

We'll email you your link, and if you check the text box, we'll text you when we go live. It works on your phone, so you can watch from the truck or the kitchen table.

Do I have to share my numbers?

No. We'll walk through a sample farm on screen. Watch and listen, or ask a question in the chat. Nothing about your farm is shared.

Is it really free?

Yes. It's free.
